Covered by Medicare and Insurance

Self testing is convenient, accurate and usually won't cost you any more than monthly testing in your doctor's office!

In 2008, Medicare approved PT/INR self testing for patients with:

  • Chronic atrial fibrillation
  • Mechanical heart valves
  • Venous thromboembolism — including deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism(PE)
  • Primary hypercoaguable state

Medicare and many insurance companies now cover up to 52 PT/INR self tests per year.

Below is a current list of medical plans that cover PT/INR self testing.

  • Aetna
  • BCBS Traditional
  • Cigna
  • Cofinity
  • Health Alliance Plan
  • Humana and United Healthcare
  • Medicare
  • Priority Health
